Estudo nº 2 para Nos Rikeza | Study no. 2 for Nos Rikeza

Aqui está a parte final da série relativa aos Fogo Fogo, feita no concerto de lançamento do seu novo disco, Nha Rikeza (minha riqueza em Crioulo Cabo Veridiano) no B.leza.

Os estudos fazem parte do meu processo artístico (há uns anos fiz uma exposição só com eles) e, aqui, são também peças que associo a esta música vibrante e colorida.

Reparem que a letra A de Nos Rikeza (nossa riqueza em Crioulo Cabo Veridiano), tem a forma de uma estrela de cinco pontas, concluída pelo tracejado a negro - são estes cinco artistas-estrelinhas por detrás desta música, que é Nos Rikeza! Esta banda deu novas roupagens ao funáná e à música Cabo Verdiana, tanto quanto trouxe uma lufada de ar fresco a Portugal. Pode até não se gostar da sua estética musical, mas sobre eles, há duas coisas que nunca poderão negar: que são todos bons músicos e que a música que fazem traz alegria até às pedras da calçada! E quem não precisa disso? Em 2024 já era tempo!

Pull the strings: Márcio Silva (aka Edu Mundo)

Usei a palavra flexões no seu texto. Era um trocadilho em Português, entre os verbos e a energia física, duas coisas proeminentes nele.

João Gomes

Desconhecemos a autoria do seu anel-piano, mas a peça foi comprada em Londres há muitos anos e foi uma mulher que o fez. Obrigada Chico pela ajuda com a partitura do E Si Propi! Vejam o detalhe do dourado.

Here's the final part of the series about Fogo Fogo, made at the concert-release of their new album, Nha Rikeza (my wealth in Cape Verdean Creole) at B.leza.

Studies are part of my artistic process (a few years ago I did an exhibition just with them) and, here, they're also pieces I associate

with this vibrant and colorful music.

Note that the letter A in Nos Rikeza (our wealth in Cape Verdean Creole) has the shape of a five-pointed star, concluded with a black dash line - representative of these five little star-artists behind this music, which is Nos Rikeza! This band has given a new look to funáná and Cape Verdean music, as much as it's brought a breath of fresh air to Portugal. You may not like their musical style, but no doubts about two things: that they are all good musicians and that the music they make brings joy even to cobblestones! And who doesn't need that? In 2024 it was about time!

I recommend that you read the other texts to better understand what I'm about to share below. Because there are things that, due to space limitations, were left unsaid about the portraits in this series:

David

The leopard was inspired by the scarf he wore. I also felt blues music

in him! See the golden detail.

Danilo

Talking to him, I realized his openness and interest in other

cultures. Hence the mention in the text about that. See the detail of

the layers and the varnish.

Francisco (aka Chico)

This was the portrait I invested the most time in the drawing, and it

was finished in the concert. Only later did I add the color.

Márcio (aka Edu Mundo)

I used the word "flexões" in the text about him - that means both

push-ups and inflections - as a word pun in Portuguese, between verbs

and physical energy, two prominent things in him.

João

We don't know who made his piano-ring, but it was bought in London

many years ago and made by a woman. Thank's Chico for helping me out

with E Si Propi's music sheet! See the golden detail.

Mick

The simultaneous intensity and softness playing. Africa, the world,

dance and jazz.
