João Gomes

Este é o meu retrato de João Gomes, teclista da banda Fogo Fogo. 

Feito dandy Lucky Luke, João traz consigo uma "valise vitale" que pesa chumbo e vale ouro (dourado)! Nela, estão colaborações como por exemplo com Ana Moura, Cais do Sodré Funk Connection, Cool Hipnoise, Da Weasel, Fogo Fogo, General D, Orelha Negra, Paulo Flores, Peste & Sida, Rui Veloso, Sam the Kid, Sara Tavares, Terrakota, entre outros! 

Topa-se a léguas o seu sentido estético materializado no seu olhar, no que ele compõe e toca e na maneira como se veste. O conceito deste desenho partiu do anel que o João usou, com a forma de um piano! A razão pela qual este anel foi inspiração para este retrato, prendeu-se, com a sua forma e com o facto de ser um anel para dois dedos. Que graça, quando o João me disse que este anel só dava para tocar certos tipos de música (devido à amplitude dos dedos)! Um figurino selecto e musical, portanto! Adorei!

Comecei logo a imaginar aquele anel como um cabo jack de duas saídas. Inspirado por altitudes celestes (azul turquesa), de um lado e num sentido, aparecia o João, pelo outro, saía música. 

Algo muito representativo do seu trabalho é o balanço entre partes (nº 2) pois ele harmoniza, na música e, os seus vários intervenientes. Sempre com um bom gosto e uma linguagem que, quando se ouve, se sabe imediatamente que é dele. Como um anel-sinete que cunha o produto final.

Aqui também está presente o início da partitura do tema "E Si Propi" ("É assim mesmo" em Crioulo Cabo-Verdiano) da banda Ferro Gaita, de que os Fogo Fogo fizeram uma versão. Escolhi esta música, por fazer a ponte entre o já feito e o novo. E este desenho é, justamente, sobre as pontes que o João estabelece e as distâncias que encurta e traduz. 

Tenho a sensação de que, musicalmente, ele sabe muito bem o que quer e que se farta de se divertir a tocar. Ao mesmo tempo, há nele maleabilidade empática, afabilidade e leveza. Com o swing e a agilidade desta lenda a tocar, deslizamos para as nuvens, numa privilegiada ligação directa a outra dimensão. Música para os nossos ouvidos!

This is my portrait of João Gomes, keyboardist of the band Fogo Fogo.

Like a dandy Lucky Luke, João brings with him a "valise vitale" that's a heavy weight and is worth gold! In it are collaborations such as with Ana Moura, Cais do Sodré Funk Connection, Cool Hipnoise, Da Weasel, Fogo Fogo, General D, Orelha Negra, Paulo Flores, Peste & Sida, Rui Veloso, Sam the Kid, Sara Tavares, Terrakota, among others!

One can tell a mile away about his aesthetic sense materialized in his gaze, in what he composes and plays and in the way he dresses. The concept of this drawing came from the ring that João wore, with the shape of a piano! The reason why this ring was the inspiration for this portrait, was due to its form and the fact that it's a ring for two fingers. How funny, when João told me that this ring was only suitable for playing certain types of music (due to the width of the fingers)! A selective and musical look, therefore! Loved it! 

I began right away to imagine that ring as a two-way jack cable. Inspired by celestial altitudes (turquoise blue), from one side and in one direction, João appeared, from the other, music came out. 

Something very representative of his work is the balance between parts (nº 2) as he harmonizes, in the music and, its different players. Always with a good taste and a language that, when one hears it, one immediately know it's his. Like a signet ring that coins the final product.

Here's also present the beginning of the score of the theme "E Si Propi" ("It's like that" in Cape Verdean Creole) by the band Ferro Gaita, of which Fogo Fogo made a version. I chose this song because it bridges the gap between what's already been done and what's new. And this drawing is precisely about the bridges that João establishes and the distances that he shortens and translates.

I have the feeling that, musically, he knows very well what he wants and that he has a blast playing. At the same time, there's empathic malleability, affability and lightness in him. This legend's swing and agility playing, teleport us to the clouds, in a privileged direct connection to another dimension. Music to our ears!
